What to Know
A One-Day Grand Central Appearance
Underdog made a one-day stop at Grand Central Terminal in Manhattan on Monday, October 19. Wearing his blue cape, the reimagined Macy’s balloon was on display until 7 PM, giving visitors a chance to see him up close.
Back in the Lineup After 42 Years
After 42 years away, Underdog is set to fly in the parade again this Thanksgiving. His last appearance was in 1984, and he’ll return in 2026 as a newly imagined version of the cartoon superhero.
Underdog first joined the parade in 1965 and flew every year through 1984. Visitors at Grand Central got an early look at the new balloon.
A Centennial Lineup of 100 Inflatables
Macy’s has 100 inflatable elements planned for its 100th parade, including Underdog and the new Disney’s Sorcerer’s Apprentice Mickey balloon.
There are familiar faces returning on the floats, too. Popeye, Olive Oyl, Swee’Pea, Sonic the Hedgehog and Bullwinkle J. Moose will ride aboard the Macy’s All-Stars float, while Underdog returns as a balloon.
Celebrating Before Thanksgiving
Macy’s started the celebrations with a 100-day countdown to the parade. Selected stores are set to feature special window displays with character balloons and images from past parades.
The Herald Square flagship is part of the plans, too, with Macy’s announcing a clock to count down the days to Thanksgiving and the 100th parade.
The Thanksgiving Broadcast
Watching from home? The 100th Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade is scheduled for Thursday, November 26, 2026. You can catch the broadcast on NBC, Peacock or Telemundo, starting at 8:30 AM in each time zone.
