What to Know
Parade, Contest and Festival
The program combined a dog parade, costume competition and festival block for participants and spectators. New York Dog Parade led the event, with Kismet as presenting sponsor.
The Avenue B Route
The procession was scheduled to head south on Avenue B, beginning at East 13th Street and finishing at East 7th Street beside Tompkins Square Park. The festival block was planned for East 6th Street between Avenues B and C.
Festival Activities
Kismet and New York Dog Parade planned photo opportunities, giveaways and rescue initiatives for the festival block.
Costume Safety
Organizers asked participants to choose safe, manageable costumes and props that allowed easy movement. Small carts, strollers, baby carriages and motorized costume pieces were allowed, while vehicle-sized builds such as golf carts were prohibited.
Rescue Dog Partnerships
New York Dog Parade partnered with the ASPCA and Animal Care Centers of NYC for Adopt a Shelter Dog Month. The October campaign promoted adoptable dogs and recognized rescue dogs taking part in the parade.
The Organizing Nonprofit
Author and longtime dog advocate Fern Watt founded New York Dog Parade. The nonprofit supports community connections, friendships between dogs and people, and canine welfare in New York City.
