Hello, and welcome to a New York City Sights & Sounds Virtual Tour! I'm Vladdy, your friendly guide, and I'm here to show you some of the most amazing sights and attractions in the Big Apple. Let's start our journey at Stuytown, a large residential complex in the East Village that offers spacious apartments and green spaces for its residents. Stuytown was built in the 1940s to provide affordable housing for returning veterans and their families, and today it is home to more than 25,000 people from various backgrounds and cultures. We can admire the architecture and landscaping of this urban oasis, as well as the many amenities and events that it offers. Stuytown has a seasonal greenmarket, an ice rink, a fitness center, a playground, and a community center.
The New School, a private university that was founded in 1919 as a progressive institution for academic freedom and social justice. The New School is known for its innovative and interdisciplinary approach to education, as well as its diverse and creative student body.
The New School's main campus is located on Fifth Avenue in Greenwich Village, but it also has several buildings in other parts of Manhattan. One of them is the University Center on 14th Street, which is a striking example of modern architecture and sustainability. The University Center houses classrooms, studios, labs, dorms, a library, a cafeteria, and an auditorium. It also features a green roof, a rainwater collection system, and a cogeneration plant that reduces energy consumption and carbon emissions.
The NYU College of Dentistry, NYU College of Nursing, and NYU Tandon School of Engineering. These are three of the many schools and colleges that make up New York University, one of the largest and most prestigious private universities in the world. NYU was founded in 1831 and has grown to encompass 18 schools and colleges across six campuses in Manhattan and Brooklyn.
NYU College of Dentistry is the largest dental school in the US, educating nearly 10 percent of the nation's dentists. It offers undergraduate and graduate programs in dental medicine and oral health sciences, as well as research opportunities and patient care services.
NYU College of Nursing is one of the leading nursing schools in the country, offering bachelor's, master's, doctoral, and certificate programs in nursing and related fields. It also conducts cutting-edge research and provides clinical practice and community service opportunities for its students.
NYU Tandon School of Engineering is the second oldest private engineering school in the US, dating back to 1854. It offers degree programs and courses in engineering, applied sciences, technology, design, and innovation. It also fosters entrepreneurship and collaboration among its students and faculty through research centers, labs, projects, competitions, and events. NYU Tandon School of Engineering is located on Jay Street near MetroTech Center in Downtown Brooklyn.
NYU Langone Medical Center, one of the nation's premier academic medical centers. It consists of several hospitals, clinics, research institutes, and educational facilities that provide world-class care for patients and train the next generation of health care leaders. NYU Langone Medical Center is located on First Avenue between 30th and 34th Streets in Murray Hill.
The United Nations Headquarters on First Avenue between 42nd and 48th Streets in Turtle Bay. The UN HQ was built in 1951 as the official seat of the international organization that aims to promote peace, cooperation, human rights, and development among its 193 member states. The UN HQ consists of several buildings that house the main organs of the UN such as the General Assembly Hall.
The Ralph Bunche Park, a small public park on First Avenue between 42nd and 43rd Streets in Turtle Bay. The park was named in 1979 after Ralph Bunche, the first African-American to win the Nobel Peace Prize in 1950 for his role as a mediator in the Arab-Israeli conflict.
The Church of St. John the Evangelist on First Avenue between 55th and 56th Streets in Midtown East. The church was established in 1861 by Father Edmund Wood, to bring the Oxford Movement to Canada. The Oxford Movement was a movement within the Anglican Church that sought to revive the Catholic traditions and practices lost during the Reformation. The church was built in 1878 in the Gothic Revival style and features stained glass windows, a high altar, a pipe organ, and a bell tower.
