What to Know

A City Inside the Conservatory

A brownstone, laundromat, pizza shop, bus stop, car wash with a yellow taxi, community garden, poster wall, and Orchid Avenue subway entrance give the exhibition its urban vocabulary. Plantings transform these references while leaving them recognizable.

The Artist's Queens Roots

Mr. Flower Fantastic developed an interest in flowers in his mother's garden. His work connects floral design with sculpture, fashion, street culture, and popular art; a black mask and gloves form part of his public identity.

Orchids as Building Material

Thousands of orchids cover facades, frame signs, and fill architectural details. Their varied shapes and colors allow the horticultural team to build dense plantings around the exhibition's city scenes.

Orchid Nights Begin in March

Selected evenings from March 21 offer a 21-and-over program with music from DJ April Hunt and Mixtape. Food and craft cocktails are available for purchase.

Learning Beyond the Display

Weekend sensory stations, orchid-care programs, expert sessions, and classes connect the installations with cultivation and conservation. NYBG's living collection and partner research support work on orchids threatened by habitat loss and illegal collection. The official exhibition archive records the 23rd Orchid Show.
