Community and Competitive Crews
The announced field included more than 180 teams and roughly 2,000 athletes. Open competition shared the program with youth invitationals, charity and nonprofit races, and corporate challenges.

Paddlers work to a shared cadence, with a drummer keeping rhythm and a steersperson directing the boat. Synchronized strokes turn individual effort into the speed of the crew.
Boats With a Ceremonial Identity
The festival has used custom teak boats and modern fiberglass racing boats. Dragon heads and tails distinguish the hulls, while a blessing and eye-dotting ceremony symbolically awaken the dragons before competition.
A Festival With New York History
The Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office launched the festival in 1990 near Battery Park City on the Hudson. It subsequently became an independent nonprofit and established its long-running Queens home at Meadow Lake.
Culture Alongside the Races
