What to Know

A New Version of the Sculpture

Brooklyn-based artists Jen Catron and Paul Outlaw created Hot Dog: The Second Serving as a changed version of Hot Dog in the City, their 2024 sculpture. The 65-foot work marked the United States’ 250th anniversary with a new presentation in Times Square.

The Familiar Ingredients Remained

The redesigned sculpture still featured an enormous bun, a traditional frankfurter and a long band of yellow mustard. Catron and Outlaw said the returning project revisited spectacle, patriotism, celebration and power.

Confetti at Noon

Hydraulic machinery lifted the sculpture each day at noon and sent confetti toward visitors. The action drew on New Year’s Eve, local parades, political rallies and gender-reveal parties.

A Pageant in Duffy Square

Jen Catron, Paul Outlaw and Abby Lloyd presented The Most American Pageant Ever! on July 22, 2026. The free program ran from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.

Four Pageant Judges

Curtis Sliwa and Waris Ahluwalia joined Lily Marotta and Jean Cooney on the judging panel. The program asked contestants to present their ideas about American identity.
