Improv Everywhere staged the 20th edition of its Mp3 Experiment in Hudson River Park on June 21, 2025. Participants dressed in red, yellow, blue, or green gathered separately at Piers 62 and 64, put on headphones, and followed a synchronized audio track that turned individual instructions into a large public performance.

What to Know
Two Piers Shared One Clock
Participants with birthdays from January through June began at Pier 62, while those born from July through December assembled at Pier 64. The app used a countdown so both groups could begin their separate tracks at the same moment.
The Instructions Stayed Concealed
Participants downloaded the official app before arriving and kept props hidden until the narration called for them. That private layer of information created two audiences: people performing together and bystanders trying to understand what was unfolding.
Color Organized the Crowd
Red, yellow, blue, and green clothing made the participants legible as moving groups across the lawns and piers. The visual system allowed simple audio prompts to become large patterns without a conventional stage or rehearsal.
Three Organizations Produced It
Improv Everywhere partnered with Hudson River Park and Make Music New York for the June event. Charlie Todd and Tyler Walker produced the performance, extending the project through a civic park and a citywide music program.
The Format Has Traveled Widely
Improv Everywhere has staged versions of the Mp3 Experiment in New York, Berlin, Adelaide, at universities, and for festivals and commissioned events. The official project archive documents the format's continuing development.
