What to Know
Color Organizes the Garden
Pink, ochre, orange, purple, and cobalt surfaces frame orchids and foliage. Water, shadows, lattices, and carefully directed views draw on Barragán's approach to gardens and buildings.
Plants Beyond Orchids
Cacti, agaves, succulents, and other tropical plants accompany the orchid displays. Together they connect the architectural references with Mexico's botanical diversity. NYBG notes that the country has more than 1,300 orchid species, many found nowhere else.
Architecture Through a Camera
Martirene Alcántara's photographic exhibition, Homage to Luis Barragán: An Act of Poetry, occupies the Ross Gallery. Her images examine geometry, color, and light in the architect's work.
After-Dark Programming
Selected adult Orchid Nights add cumbia music, dancing, cocktails, food, and illuminated displays. These evenings offer a different way to experience the conservatory installation.
Cultivation and Conservation
Talks, orchid-care demonstrations, sensory tables, and herbarium programs connect the display with research and cultivation. NYBG's archive records the exhibition and its related events.
